How do Scandinavian pieces of furniture differ from other ones? Probably by its style, high-quality materials, interesting, sometimes it seems that very simply, but somehow charming design. In very old times Italians were in a peak of a furniture design, however, Scandinavians are really worth this place.
Concerning the pieces of furniture themselves and their design, it is obvious that Scandinavian style aesthetic principles are strictly followed – minimalism, functionality, clear, laconic forms and natural materials. In this post we will glance over the most famous pieces of furniture of Scandinavian designers. Somehow chairs are dominant.
Alvar Aalto - a Finnish architect and designer, a founder of contemporary Finnish design. His creativity has made a great contribution to the world‘s as well as Lithuania‘s architecture.
Arne Jacobsen - an architect and a designer mostly well-known in a furniture design because of his chairs "The Swan" and "The Egg".
Bruno Mathsson - a Swedish designer mostly well known in a furniture design because of his light, aesthetic and functional pieces of furniture.
Hans J. Wegner - a Danish furniture designer with more than 500 different chairs design who is still one of the most productive designers worldwide today. His works are accredited to a school of modernism where the hugest part of attention is paid to functionality. Wagner‘s words perfectly reflect his works: “A chair doesn't have its back side, therefore, it has to be nice from all sides and corners“.
Herman Miller - one of the hugest manufacturers of American office furniture and equipment, but he has also designed perfect pieces of furniture for a dining room and “Eames” chairs are the most widely used chairs in Scandinavian interiors.
